It displays dark scenes with great clarity. Blue ray discs will blow you away. The best TV I have ever seen. The sound is good enough for most viewing but you should have a sound system to really enjoy movies and many of the programs offered on TV. Can't beat the price for a large screen. We sit about 13' from the screen and could sit a little closer. I found the height you set the TV is critical.
